Our Goal
Our ultimate goal is for you to be comfortable with us and to be able to be yourself in your Session, which will ultimately help you to be happy with your pictures for years to come. We love pictures and want you to love yours! We prefer taking candid and “lifestyle” photos, but posed are nice as well. Just let us know if you have specifics in mind for the types of photos you are wanting. We welcome lots of communication with our customers so that we can best accomplish everyone’s goals. Please remember that we will only do classy and modest photos – including poses and clothing. If your grandparents wouldn’t want to see it, then we don’t want to see it either. Thanks!
Session Timing
Since soft and natural light is our goal (mainly to eliminate squinting eyes and glaring foreheads!), sessions should be scheduled when this can best be accomplished. If you have chosen a location where you know there are shady areas, then in the middle of the day for a Session will work well. If there is no shade, then just after sunrise or just before sunset is best. Please keep this in mind when scheduling your appointment with us. The weather can be snowy for your Session, as long as everyone will be happy and warm enough!
What to Wear
We only do photos with the subjects being modest (no cleavage, short-shorts, bare midriffs or thongs showing, or anything else that you wouldn’t want your grandparents to see!). That said, wear clothing that best depicts who you are, yet clothing that is too busy or contrasting takes away from the subject of the pictures – You!! White or very light is fine if it is just you in the picture. If there are others with you, having everyone in the same lightness of shirt will help with the lighting and making everyone look their best.
Before Your Session
Let us know what kinds of photos you will want: Candid shots, formal, edgy, playful, etc. See our Galleries for ideas. If children will be in the session with us, please make sure that they come to the session fed, clean, healthy, and well rested so that we get the best photos possible and they have a fun experience. We want the Session to be fun and relaxed for everyone involved! Please choose what location you want. You can go to our Location Ideas page to see the photos we have done at each location we have been to. If there is a different location that you would like than where we have been, let us know!
During Your Session
Please remember that the clock starts ticking at our scheduled time, so it is best for you to be on time to get the most photos. You are welcome to change clothing, and locations, but remember that they eat up your shooting time.
After Your Session
An online gallery for your proofs will be available for viewing within 1-2 weeks of your Session. We will email you when they are ready. Once we have edited the photos, your gallery will be set up to save the low-resolution files and share as you choose. The images will not be printable larger than a 8×10 size. Go to Prints from a Session to purchase prints, or you can purchase the high resolution images – please see individual package details. Money is due before we place your print order. At this time we only accept cash, check, or PayPal. Orders will be ready within 1 week, usually just a few days! If you need your pictures ASAP, there will be a $50 rush fee.
Photographing Children
If you have smaller children, they will have the best experience (and we’ll get the best photos!) if they are fed, healthy, well rested, and clean! Also remember that they can feel others’ stress, so we try and have the session be as low-key as possible. Just relax and have fun!
Payment and Print Shipping
We currently accept payment in the form of PayPal or cash, which is due before your Session and if buying prints, before we place your order. Contact us for shipping details since each order is different. You are also welcome to pick up your order from us for no shipping charge.
A Word About Copyright
All clients are required to sign a model release and copyright notice prior to your Session. All images are the property of Chris and Heather Photography, even if you buy the high resolution images, and are protected by federal copyright laws – which includes copying images or prints.
We reserve the right to publish and print all photographs for marketing and promotional purposes.
